Can This Even Be Called Music? It’s an album of pure and masochistic ecstasy.

Terry Kattleman An unsung masterpiece. Not kidding. It out-Mats Gustafsson, and that's saying something.

danhofman Fantastic free, avant-garde jazz. The guitar and the sax/clarinet combination is pretty interesting and creative here. There's a lot of great synergy, and the music is propulsive.

"a determined, furiously dark, animalistic blast of metal-jazz improv…” Selwyn Harris (Jazzwise)

"Channeling both free jazz and a punk/metal vibe, Domene’s heavily distorted riffing and speed picking are juxtaposed with drones and urgently angular melodies from Sinton. Underneath, Caratti provides staggered rhythms. All three of these explorers have a penchant for twisting notes, irregular phrasing, and left-of-center explosiveness." Mike Borello (Avant Music News)

Iluso Records presents "Synaptic Self" by dMu.

Channeling the dark arts of Tibetan mythology, drummer Mike Caratti (Original Past Life, Low My Guy) composed the music for the album, which features Josh Sinton (Ideal Bread, Nate Wooley's Quintet, Anthony Braxton's TriCentric Orchestra) on baritone sax and bass clarinet, and rising star Álvaro Domene (Joe McPhee, Karl Berger, Briggan Krauss) on guitar, whose exceptional performances give life to this demonic experiment.

A guttural eruption of sounds from the worlds of avant-garde jazz and death metal, the album moves with the same menacing purpose as the dMu who graces the album cover, taking listeners on a gripping journey to an unknown world where the elements of contemporary creative music are distorted beyond recognition.

The album was recorded and mixed at East Side Sound Studio in NYC by Grammy Award winning recording engineer Marc Urselli.
